Pumpkin Plot and Organic Farm Visit
We had another great day out on Monday the 27th of June. This time the Green-School’s Committee came with us as a treat. We left the school at 9.45am to go to the pumpkin plot. We discovered the frost had attacked some of the pumpkins but Pat was equipped with Phacelia seed. This green manure slows [...]
Letter from Taoiseach
We got a wonderful surprise today when we received a letter from The Taoiseach himself, Enda Kenny. In his letter he had heard from Pat, about the great work being done by the children in their pumpkin project. He wished everyone involved with the project the best of luck and hoped Mrs Cooke would be able [...]
Planting the Pumpkins at the Plot
On Thursday the 2nd of June we went to the plot. We had to bring our pumpkin plants with us. When we got out we had to jump on the ridges to flatten them out some more. Then we each found a place to plant our pumpkin plants. We had to prepare the hole by removing [...]
Pumpkin Project
We went out to the allotment today, Friday the 15th of April. Today we were sowing our seeds. We all had a paper pot which we filled with moist compost. We then planted the seed in the middle of the pot and covered it lightly with compost again. Pat then showed us what to do [...]
Our First Visit to the Allotment
Today we went on our first outing to the allotment on the Foxford Road. Pat showed us our plot and then another plot which was prepared. The ground was prepared with seaweed and papers. We then saw a pile of compost made from horse manure. There was no smell from it. It just looked like [...]

Removing the Seeds from the Pumpkins
Pat O’ Mahony came in to the classroom today. He showed us how to save the seed from the “northern bush” pumpkin. This is a large pumpkin. We had to check that all the seeds were good. Pat let us out our seeds on a wire mesh so they can be dried. The classroom is too [...]
Tasting Pumpkin Soup
A big “ THANK YOU” to Mrs Cooke for making a delicious pumpkin soup and some cheesy soda bread. They were lovely. Have a look at our pictures. We are looking forward to the “Pumpkin Project”. We will publish the receipe here for the soup in the next few days.
To get a headstart on the project [...]
