A 5th class girl, who, after spotting many chairs down in the morning (when the chairs are meant to be up on desks!!) told teacher that it didn’t look too good when some chairs were down. We in 5th class agreed and thanked this girl..However, it appears that SAME girl appears to have forgotten to put up her own chair. Can anyone reveal the mystery person’s name??????

First class went to the Museum of Country Life on the 29th of February, 2012. It was an interactive science tour. The theme was clothing in the old days with particular focus on life on the Aran Islands .                                                                                                                      We learned about natural fibres and natural dyes.In the activity room Tom gave us a chance to experiment with natural dye. Can you remember what colour we got from red cabbage? What happens when you mix this coloured water with lemon juice (acid)/ vinegar (acid)/ bread soda(alkaline)? You get two different results! Then if you mix those two together what happens?

In the next section we learned about natural fibres-wool, linen and cotton.We were shown fleece in its raw state, how to card raw fleece and how to use a drop spindle. Every child got a chance to use the carder and the drop spindle.

Then our three resident models, Jack D, Mollie and Liam, modelled some clothes, showing the clothing of ordinary people in the past. Jack and Liam had fun showing us how boys wore skirts in the old days. Can you remember the reasons why boys wore skirts? Can you remember the reason why the skirts were pleated at the bottom? Also can you remember what did fishermen put on their sweaters (jumpers) and why?
