Harry Hawk has been caught….

We were all delighted to find out today on our Twitter account that Harry Hawk has been put in prison. We read about it in the Intervole newspaper “The Daily Vole”. The fake paintings were bugged and this lead the police to his house. The funny thing was that Harry Hawk wanted to steal the 9 paintings as a Birthday present to himself. He got a nice present when he ended up in a cage!!

For our efforts to help Leo the Vole we got a nice certificate for our classroom. Well done everyone!

Twitter Art Project

We are really enoying the Twitter Digital Art Project. Our mission is to stop Harry Hawk @HarryHawk1 from stealing the paintings from the art gallery. Intervole - Leo the Vole @Leo_the_V has received word on what is happening and is in the middle of creating “fake” versions of the paintings. However he needs our help and the help of other schools. Every day we must look at 3 famous paintings and fill out three questions on the Google Art Project website to help Leo the Vole to complete his paintings. We have them all correct so far.

This is a list of the paitings we have looked at on Tuesday and Wednesday so far:

Responding Day 1

“The Nightwatch” by Rembrandt
“The Cholmondeley Ladies”

Responding Day 2
“Battle of San Romano” by Paolo Ucello
“Still Life: Tea” by Jean-Étienne

We also tweet to Leo the Vole every day and Harry hawk. (Keep your eyes peeled for him)!

Digital Art Week

This week is Digital Art Week. There are lots of fun activities to take part in. One of them is the digital art treasure hunt. An Art Thief known only as “Hawk” is wanted for stealing some of the world’s most famous paintings. If seen, do not approach. This is a job for Leo the Vole. We have joined up with schools around Ireland on Twitter to help Leo the Vole capture Harry Hawk with some art puzzles. In this project we will get to explore some of the world’s most famous art pieces and learn lots about them through conversing with other schools and our hero Leo. We are so excited. Tomorrow we will get our first clue. You can follow us on twitter on @2ndculleens.

We will also create lots of digital art using a computer program or an app. Stay tuned for updates.

Grandparents day visitors

On February 1st,grandparents of 3rd class pupils visited our class.They told us stories about their own school days.We made St.Brigid,s crosses in school and we gave some to the grandparents.

Trócaire Box in 2nd Class

Well done to 2nd Class who contributed to the Trócaire’s Lenten Campaign 2012. We raised €30.82. The money will go towards helping people like Daniel from Uganda and his family. Discover Daniel’s Story here…..

High Now Low Brown Exhibition

After PE in the Sports and Leisure Centre, 2nd class went to the Ballina Arts Centre. We saw an exhibition called “High Now Low Brown” exhibition by artist Bernadette Kiely. It was lovely. When we got back to school we had our lunch and then had lots of fun at “Bóthar Day”. We made lots of purchases. After lunch we all got our jobs for our First Holy Communion which will be on the 5th of May.

Third class Knitting

Third class have just completed a four week course in the basics of knitting. We would like to thank all those who helped us especially some of our grandparents. We have created some lovely hairbands,wristbands,purses and some very original pieces. Everyone did a piece for our colourful little class blanket. We will put up another post when it is all sewn together. We want to say míle buíochas to all our Knitting helpers and hope they will come back again next year.
